40km bike ride on a saw bum. And other things too.

Written 4th June 2012.

On Friday afternoon we ventured into Saltzburg city for a look around.
This picture is of where they used to wash the horses - there are ramps on either side so they can be walked in. An early car wash! I thought you might find this interesting Rachael.

We bought a snack - this is a Mozart Bretzel (Pretzel) It was as yummy as it looked - it had jam inside the twirls of dough and chocolate on top. Mmmmm.

We also bought some MozartKugeln! Yum!

Here is a shop window display of some new old school clothes. Cute!

And all along the oldest street in Saltzburg are beautiful intricate signs. I love them. :)

Here is another window display I had to have a photo of. Ribbons and ribbons of glass christmas baubles painted with pretty designs.

Here is Steve standing on the oldest street. It is called Getreidegasse.

There is even a Red Bull World shop because Red Bull comes from this area - near Wolfgangsee where we went on the cog railway with Lisa and Peter.

I liked their pedestrian and cyclist lights.
When the light is red the little red cyclist puts his foot on the ground and leans his bike to the side.

Then when he turns green he hops on his bike and rides! Cute!

We shouted Lisa and Peter dinner at a cool restaurant. We had a really fun night together!

And after they bought us yummy ice-cream. I love this picture of Peter with his giant one!

When we walked back to the car we walked across Saltzburg's bridge with padlocks. (Remember the one in Paris and we didn't know why it had padlock on it?) Lisa and Peter told us why the padlocks are there. People put them there as a symbol of unending love. Awww.

The next morning we went to the Trick Fountain Palace at Hellbrunn.
We sat at this table and when the guide turned on the fountain we got wet bums. I don't have a picture of us on it because the guy I gave the camera to didn't take a picture. (?)

There were heaps of funny fountains and many sneaky ones that the guide would flip on and get you wet when you least suspected it. The Palace was built by Arch Bishop Marcus Sitticus from 1612 to 1619 (when he died.)

My favorite was this water theater which is massive (it might be 1:12 scale?) and many of the figures move and music plays and it is all operated by water - no electricity is used. Talk about clever engineering!

Steve thought he might make it thorough the water tunnel.

The guide nearly got him by dipping the jets  of water.
He thought he had escaped when he got hit by other ones coming out from in front of him!

We had a fun time laughing with everyone who was getting tricked by the fountains.

Afterwards we found the sound of music pavilion in the Hellbrunn gardens when Liesl and Ralph do the "You are sixteen going on seventeen" song.
Hi Bernie!

Next was an audio guide of the palace.

And then home to try some MotzartKugelen. Yummmmmm!

After partaking of a few MozartKugeln we decided to ride Lisa and Peter's bikes to Lake Mondsee again and have a picnic dinner.
On the way we spotted a deer and there was a hunter on a bike going up into the forest.
I like these signs they have saying watch out for children.

The weatherman cooperated with our plans and we got nice weather for our ride.

We also got a good show to get tea from and shared a pizza and a kabab with sheep's cheese. Yum.

I wore my running shoes which are a bit thicker and made riding a bit easier - so I was riding on the balls of my feet rather than my toes.

On the way home we spotted quite a few more deer.
In the end we spotted about 9 (because we weren't sure if 1 moved).

The moon was hanging big and luminous in the sky.

And the wild flowers were all looking pretty as usual.

We rode up a bit above Thalgau where Lisa and Peter live and then we saw a deer that was next to a ditch.

so we stalked up next to it and we got 30m away from in. Steve nearly got a picture of it but the camera was focusing a bit slow because of the low light and he just missed it. He got one of me though.

We spent the rest of the evening planning where to go next.

Yesterday we got a few bits and pieces done and in the afternoon we went for a 40km bike ride around lake Mondsee. (It would have been easier if our bums weren't so saw from the ride the night before!)
We stopped halfway around and had a quick and refreshing swim in the lake.

It was a very nice ride. It took us 3 hours in the end and I was tired by then.

When we got back Steve cooked up a roast and we had a lovely dinner with Lisa and Peter and gave them a few little presents as a thank you.
It was a bit sad saying goodbye because we have had such a nice time with them but now we are looking forward to the next part of our trip!

Where to next your asking?

You'll have to wait and see!

Auf wiedersehen, liebe Amy.
