Steve eats a Scorpion in Bangkok Thailand.

Written 9th November 2012

Luckily, although the alarm didn't go off I still woke up not too late and we had time to have breakfast and pack and got to the airport in plenty of time!

At the airport it was funny though because none of the clocks were working! So typical Indonesia! I wonder if anyone has missed their flights because they were tricked by the clocks...

We made it onto ours and the flight was fairly standard. We really didn't want to leave Indonesia though!

We arrived in Bangkok and our first order of business was catching a taxi (which people thought was funny due to the surfboards accompanying us).

We arrived at Joy's place and she was super helpful and pointed us in the direction of some nice food.

Steve had green curry and I had cashew chicken and it was the nicest Thai food we have had.

Steve bought a bannoffe back too and I was just going to have a taste but it was SO nice I ate more than a taste hehe.

The next day we met some nice people in the common area at Joy's and they invited us to come into town with them. There was Faulk (from Germany), Jimmy (from England and very organised - we like to think of him as The Tour Guide) and Jonny (from England and Australia). The five of us caught the train then a river ferry.

We saw all these boats of the river that looked like the had motors that had been ripped straight out of cars...

When we disembarked we walked through some markets.

Then stopped for lunch.

next we decided to go and visit the Palace. We had to wear some interesting long clothes to be respectful. It was so hot with my playsuit underneath!

The palace was very pretty with lots of manicured trees in interesting shapes and charming little bonsais.

The palace itself was very ornate.

There were many statues of fantastic creatures.

And elephants.

This was a mall scale replica of Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

The detail in everything was amasing.

After that we went to have a look at Khao San Road which is the main backpackers area.

There were tones of lovely stalls.

And dodgy wireing.

Then we caught the local ferry back to the train and went back to our station. Jimmy went to get some food with Joy and the rest of us went back to Bamboo Cafe.

Faulk had rice wrapped in egg...

That night we hung out chatting with other travelers which was nice.

Here is Steve with Vinnie from Ireland. Vinnie and Ana have just begun their trip hence the white vs tan photo haha.

The next day Steve and I went to Wat Po to see the Reclining Buddah.

He was giant!

The detail there was stunning also.

You were not allowed to wear shoes inside (feet are considered dirty) and you could not point your feet at Buddah as it is disrespectful.

There are many orange clad monks about the place. Women are not allowed to touch them so you have to be careful not to bump into them etc.

We then went into this temple and at 5pm s one monks came in to sing.

On the way out we meant some felines.

This one liked Steve.

Doorways in Asia are not made for tall people like Steve but are okay for little people like me!

We decided to walk home. We went through the flower markets.

Then the rest of the hour walk was rather uneventful.
That evening we were persuaded to go back into Khao San Road with some of the other travelers.
We squashed five people in a tuk tuk... One tuk tuk driver was trying to race us. It was rather funny.

When we arrived the boys checked out the gross creatures available to eat.

Scorpions! Ik!

The boys got a few beer towers and got their party on!

Here is me and Anna with lots of pretty balloons in the background.

This is Paula and Callum from Scotland.

And of course Jonny, Faulk and Jimmy!

Even Steve got dancing. And some German girls were trying to hit on him!

It was a fun night of dancing with fun people from all over the world.

At the end of the night Steve spied the scorpions again and decided he must eat one.

So he did.

Faulk decided to chow down on one too.

Yuk!

He said it tasted like shell with not much meat inside.

Love the scorpion juice running down the beard!!!
