"Don't forget to buy a baguette."

Written 10th August 2012

The title of this blog is Steve's favorite saying due to the amount a baguettes people consume in France and which we see being transported in any way you can imagine; bike, scooter, backpack, skateboard etc.

The last week has been another blur of hot days,

(We saw a camel in our car park as a circus came to town.)

surfing, playing cards in the shade,

reading, swimming, lounging in the sun etc.

We even sorted out the car and found some things to post home to lighten our load.

These are the jandals I have had so far on our trip. The two pairs of the left are broken. The pair on the right suck and have given me massive calluses on my feet.

A few highlights from recently.:

One day was swealtering hot and in the evening we were still boiling so we walked along the beach at Le Penon and went for a swim. There was a little wave that Steve tried to body surf but he face planted the sand and ended up grazing all down his nose on the sand!

That evening after our swim we went down to Seignosse Ocean to eat some Churros (they are a bit like doughnut sticks that you dip in Nutella). It was a lovely evening down there. The shopping area was all lit up and at 10pm there was a fire dancer display which was cool.

We made friends with a nice German Couple called Florrein and Sabrina who we hung out with a bit. One Evening we went surfing with Florrein and I got some really good waves. The crowd was not so bad as usual as there were no learners on longboards crashing into people or making obsticals of themselves as it was a little big for them. It had been onshore and lumpy all day and glassed off for the evening. I got a few really nice waves out there. Nice wally right handers. I am getting much better at catching waves now.

This is Hossegor at the beach.

This is Les Estagnots.

Our new campsite. Number 206.

Steve with baguettes.

A picnic at Hossegor.

A sea of umbrellas at Le Penon.

Hossegor town.

For the last three nights we have stayed with a French friend called Caroline which was nice. There was no space at camping because it is the summer holidays here.

I bought some new jandals.

Yummy lollies.

This is Seignosse.

This is our supermache.

And this is our Patisserie.

The day before yesterday we sent a bunch of stuff we no longer need back home.

Yesterday we played 500 at a park for a while and then we went to the beach and went swimming a lot as it was SO hot. In the evening we realised the swell had built a bit so after dinner we went out for a surf. I had such a good time. I got some really nice wally right handers again. We surfed until it was dark and you could only see the waves coming because of a glint of fading light off the water. We were surfing inky black walls while the stars shimmered overhead.

Today is another day of relaxing. We need to try and find someone to buy all our camping gear too.
