Arriving in Morocco.

We arrived in Agadir in Morocco and were met by a mate of the guy who's room we were staying in. It was strange being driven around on the right side of the road and going anti clockwise around the roundabouts! As we were flying in to Morocco my first impression was of a parched place dotted with dusty scrubby trees and squarey concrete houses. That was pretty much what it looked like from the ground too. We saw donkeys, goats and camels. There were people traveling along the road on all sorts of contraptions. We arrived in Taghazout and were introduced to Abdu who owns the building where we are staying - Ocean Surf house. He is a cool and very friendly guy. He took us for a walk around Taghazout and showed us good places to eat and buy stuff etc. We ate some pancakes and then went back to our room for a nap. The place we are staying at is pretty cool. It's full of character even if it is a bit dusty around the edges. Morocco is quite a dirty place (what I have seen so far). It has taken me a while to get used to all the rubbish, strange smells and rubble. The alleyways are like a hodge-podge patchwork of concrete. The narrow stairs in our building all are different heights which make it interesting walking up and down. Steve has to mind his head but I am short enough that I can fit down and up easily. After our nap we had tea and then went back to bed. We were so tired from all the traveling and not having much sleep the night before. We started off in this room.

But it had 2 single beds so we got moved to this room, which has a double bed. And a view of the sea out the window.

And a cool mural.

The next morning we had breakfast and went for a walking mission around the coast. The wind was really blowing though. Steve went in cause he was desperate to get wet but I thought it was rubbish. I was feeling a bit home sick and missing Bethell. There are lots of cats here. They are quite skinny and scrawny but don't look diseased. There were some really cute ones snoozing under a boat. When we were walking back there was a mob of goats and they were all standing up on their hind legs to gobble the flowers off a viney droopy bush. So cute. Next we caught the local bus to Banana Village so we could get some money out. We are having a bit of a tricky time figuring out how much the money is worth and which coins are which. Lots of the men here are pretty creepy. They all stare at me. Some were also staring at Steve's pocket with obvious criminal intensions. I stood facing him to guard his pocket on the bus. When we got back some more people had arrived at the house. There were 2 German girls who were really nice and also 2 guys from Tazmania who have been living in London and are on a surf mission too. We hung out with them for a bit then chilled out and had some dinner. Then bed.

Thismorning we got up and went for a walk to go surfing before the wind leaped up. We went with A.J. And Jeff (the Auzzie guys) and had a bit of a grovel. The water was so cold! But not as cold as winter at home (thankfully!) On the way there we saw the funniest sight. This big van was bowling along and suddenly a surfboard came flying off about 100 metres infront of us, then another and as the van slowed down most of the rest of the big double stack came cascading down! There was surfboard carnage all over the road. The surfers all leaped out of the van to rescue their boards from the traffic. They made a tremendous crack when they hit the road so some of them must have been pretty damaged! As we caught up to them we saw a guy holding what looked like a brand new board looking desolate and gutted. Poor bloke. Then it was lunch time yum yum! We have just been chilling for the rest of the day. We have decided to rent a car for the rest of the time we are here with A.J. And Geoff since they fly out the day before us from Agidir as well. As we don't know any words in Moroccan Araibic luckily most people speak French and English here so we are not having too much trouble buying things etc.

On the 5th April we woke up at 5am to go for a surf up the coast in our newly rented car. We went to a place called Boilers. I was all dressed up in my wettie and ready to go in until I got down to the water. It was tricky as to get in with lots of mini kinas all over the slippery rocks. The wave looked like it was breaking onto quite shallow rock. I was too puss puss to go in cause of the rocks. They freak me out. I had a nice time watching the boys and reading a bit. I saw Jeff get a good little shimmy. The boys had all had a turn at driving but I hadn't yet. It is odd getting used to driving on the right side of the road. We are slowly getting used to looking left when crossing the street. It is hard to break the habit of looking right.
