Surfing Boilers.

This entry was written on the 6th April 2012.
When we got back from the surf Steve drove us into Agadir. We had a quick look at a big market and went to the supermarket then had shewarmas for lunch. They are like a kebab and yummy as. I'm sort of becoming accustomed to seeing all the rubbish and rubble everywhere but it is pretty gross. It's sad to see a country that is just covered in litter. Some people keep their little part of the street clean and tidy but there are massive expanses of rubbish littering the landscape along the sides of the highway. It all sticks to the tufty little bushes. There are so many random people here just sitting on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I feel sorry for the beggars, especially the disabled ones. The village between Taghazout where we are staying and Agadir is called Banana Village. (They sell lots of bananas there.) Banana Village has SO much rubbish. It is lining the streets. Everything is so dusty and dirty here. I wonder if hundreds of years ago it was not so arid. We had a rock melon the other day and they are all the size of a large Orange but taste and look the same otherwise. I wonder if they struggle to grow because of the lack of rain.

When we returned from Agadir I had a turn at driving. I didn't get off to too good a start – with a few stalls and stuff but was fine one I got out of the park and off the gravel hill start. We were driving along the highway and saw a camel standing on the side of the road next to the sea so I stopped to take a picture of him.

We carried on to check a surf spot next to heaps of cactus but it was too insy winsy so we didn't go out there. I had to do a 5 point turn on a gravel hill. A few stalls and a nice Moroccan man moving rocks out of the way in his pajama-type robe. Later we headed back out onto the highway and went back to Boilers. The boys braved the crowd and had an okay surf. Abdu who's house we are staying in came with us too. We got to watch the sun rise and set in the same place that day aswell as admire the nearly full moon hanging in the sky.

When we got back we sat on the roof with A.J, Jeff, and Sophie and Laura (2 Ozzie girls we met earlier in the day that are mates with Jeff and A.J.) and Abdu cooked us up a mean feed. Yum, he is such a good cook. It's making me hungry just thinking about it! We had a fun night all hanging out and laughing together on the rooftop.

Thismorning we got up at 5am to go surfing at Boilers. It is called Boilers because it has a massive boiler (maybe from a ship???) in the surf.

Also the water boils up after a wave breaks because it is shallow. Dawn washed across the land as we drove and we pulled up just as it was light enough to see. The lights of Agadir were still twinkling on the horizon as we suited up and headed out in the chilly morning to navigate the slippery rocks and kinas (or urchins as the others call them), Steve and I partially protected by bootie clad feet. I had quite a fun surf cause it was small but there were not really that many waves coming through. Luckily there were only the 4 of us out. We got to witness a beautiful sight though. The sun rose up in the east and in the west a vibrant rainbow appeared against the rich grey clouds. It grew and grew, arching until it touched down in the water to make a full semicircle. It was very lovely. It stayed around to watch us surf for a bit and then slowly faded away. It was a very difficult spot to get out of. All the rocks are slimy and uneven and packed with kinas. Meanwhile you are holding a surfboard which you don't want to hit on the rocks and are being hit periodically by waves which then obscure your view of the rocks and kinas. I got a few spikes through my booties but they protected me sufficiently so that I didn't get any imbedded too deeply (unlike the boys yesterday who now have pincushions for feet.)
