Florence, Sienna, Cortona and Badiaccia.

Written 16th May 2012

Yesterday morning we went down to the old bridge, admired the glistening and sparkling things, and I bought a pretty broach which Steve helped me pick out.

We walked back up the hill, packed up the tent and headed out for Sienna.

Where we stopped to have Pizza for lunch. The pizza in Italy is cheep and as you would expect very good.

Then we drove on through beautiful Tuscany, which is packed with rolling grassy hills, road side poppies, and pointy trees. And we came to Cortona which I wanted to show Steve as it is such a cute town on top of a hill. (It's the town in the movie Under the Tuscan Sun.)

Cortona consists of winding, narrow and cute old streets

and beautiful views.

We devoured (Steve) and delicately spooned up (me) gilato. And then hit the road again as the youth hostel was full up where we were going to stay and we couldn't get an answer to the door at the monastery where the youth hostel guy told us to try. It was okay though because we found a really nice camp site on a lake near by. The place was called Badiaccia. It looked as if it had been snowing because of all the white cotton ball fluff from the trees which was coating everything.

This morning while I was having a shower the weather took a turn for the worst and it started pissing down with rain! So crazy. So Steve had packed up the tent and we set off towards Venice. But the road was block for the Italian bike race called Giro d' Italia. So we sat on the side of the road to watch. And waited. And waited. And waited. And then it hailed on us! And poured with rain! And then the race came zooming past. With their support cars, motorbikes, and convoy of Ambulances!

And it was all over. The rest of the day has just been driving and we got bored of that so stopped and set up camp at Comacchio. Tomorrow it will be on to Venice.
