Hiking in Hail?

Written 29th May 2012

Yesterday we had a relaxing day at home doing a few chores and things and building a cupboard for Lisa and Peter (you all know how much I love building things!)

In the evening we had a DELICIOUS dinner. It was cooked on a table grill. It is really fun because you cut everything up and then you can cook your own food in front of you.

Mmmm, so good! And healthy too. :)
The little bits down the bottom are little trays where you can grill veggies and melt cheese on top of them. It was yummy with garlic butter too.

Steve and I now want one! :)

Today we decided to go hiking...
Steve chose us a mountain to go up called Trattberg so we headed over there in the car. Storm clouds were lurking about the region but we decided to give it a try as they were only in some places.
We payed the 5 Euro to go up the road to the nice old man (who spoke German too fast for me to understand - or at least he didn't use many of the words I know!) at the gate and then the weather decided to do this.

When we got to the top the smily old man that let us through the gate appeared in his little old car to check we had made it up okay! So nice. He waved to us and headed back down the mountain.

We had a little walk around but the boiling grey clouds were making ominous rumblings and grumblings and we didn't think it wise to stray too far from the car. It was lucky because the weather decided to do this...

We played Yahtzee on the iPad while we tried to wait it out. Bu the crashes and flashes did not abate so after a while we drove (carefully) back down the mountain through the big fat rain.
We decided to go and look at Seewaldsee (a lake). The road to the lake was blocked so we walked. And our shoes filled up with water so that our feet were sloshing around inside. There was so much water flooding off the mountain. It was brimming from everywhere. It was coming out of holes in the ground, stone fences, trickling and gushing down, down, down, from all over the place!

Aren't the cows cute with their jingly bells!
I sang this song to Steve;

"Jingle cows, jingle cows,
Jingle all the day!
Oh what fun it is to eat
grass instead of hay!
Yay!"

Of course he was impressed immensely with my lyrical genius!

We walked around the lake a little. Isn't it pretty with the misty clouds all laying on the trees for a nap.

On the way back to the car we saw a cute little squirrel springing from tree to tree! It was so cute! I think I forgot to mention that we saw one when we walked to the Maiden's Leap waterfall too. They are really nimble and can jump SO far! Can you spot him in this picture? He is black.

Tonight we cooked Lisa and Peter a yummy roast and made Meringue Berry Crunch for pudding. Yum!

What will tomorrow bring?
